She looks familiar! Justin Bieber smooches with Selena Gomez lookalike in his Boyfriend video

By Mike Larkin

With his actual girlfriend busy fulfilling her work commitments, it seems as though Justin Bieber - the crazy, lovesick fool - has had to make do with a lookalike to take her place.

The 18-year-old could be seen smooching a brunette who looked very similar to the Disney star on the set of his Los Angeles video shoot for Boyfriend.

But fear not, fans of the super-saccharine couple, because the girl was merely a model acting a part for the new edgy, and decidedly more adult style video.

Look familiar? Justin Bieber is so besotted he picked a lookalike of girlfriend Selena Gomez to smooch with in his Boyfriend video

He may be growing up fast but Bieber clearly still enjoys playing with his toys.

The singer was spotted sitting in a muscle car and getting ready to ride a motorcycle as he recorded some final scenes for the promo.

And the pint-sized pop singer looked in jubilant mood as he enjoyed himself in the California sun.

Is that my car: Justin Bieber looked impressed when he saw the Ford Mustang as he filmed his Boyfriend video in Los Angeles today

The orange Ford Mustang and the spray-painted motorbike certainly seem in keeping with the edgier image the Baby star wants to carve for himself.

And Justin certainly seems to fancy himself as a bit of an easy rider if his on-set props are anything to go by.

The singer was wearing a sleeveless denim jacket, shoes and an almost impossibly high quiff for his starring role.

How do you start this thing? The star seemed to amuse the crew as he struggled to get his bearings behind the wheel

Bootiful: The pop idol's propensity for donning outlandish footwear continued as he wore golden trainers

Hataboy: The vocalist was seen using his iPad as he relaxed in the morning before shooting began
He teamed the outfit with a pair of bright golden trainer boots which certainly stood out.

Earlier in the day the 18-year-old looked far more relaxed as he strolled around the set while dressed in a T-shirt and baseball cap, a look he topped off with a gold chain.

The studious star spent his down time browsing the internet on his iPad.

Easy rider: Macho Justin will no doubt have enjoyed donning his leathers and getting to grips with this motorcycle

Stay gold: No doubt the pop star thought of Ponyboy's words of wisdom in movie classic The Outsiders as he pulled on his shoes

Impressed by his car? Justin was spotted kissing the hand of the Selena Gomez lookalike who features in the video

Later he was spotted getting to grips again with the Selena Gomez lookalike who stars in his video.

There is already plenty of footage in the can for one of the most exciting pop events of the year, with teaser scenes from the video already being shown on The Voice earlier this week..

The film noir style clip gave an even better insight into his more adult direction as it showed him lit by moody dark blue light, cutting a dramatic silhouette then seducing a beautiful woman.

He also used the hit show as a platform to advertise the fact his new album Believe will hit stores on June 19.

What next? The Baby star seemed to be seeking direction about how to handle his co-star

Sexy: The new video suggests that teen favourite Justin Bieber might be attempting to head in a more adult direction

Wearing a simple jacket, jeans and gold pendent, a quiff sporting Bieber arrived to rapturous applause from the studio.

'I'm really happy to be here, and I think you guys are going to really love the video,' he told host Carson Daly.

In the clip, Bieber is seen whispering the to a girl against the resolutely grown-up looking background.

Hands down, the sexiest video yet: What's going on here? Bieber fans still have to wait to find out

Homage: This pose owes much to one of Bieber's great idols, the late Michael Jackson

Moody blues: Bieber goes for a more 'muso' posture in the teaser for this video, and has his guitar feature prominently

With a guitar in hand, the singer strikes a pose which owes much to Michael Jackson in the video for Billie Jean.

He will perform the song live for the first time during the grand finale of the NBC talent show.

Bieber also joked with Maroon 5 frontman and judge Adam Levine about a 'supergroup' the two were planning.

Starting the sidesplitting exchange, he said: 'Basically, we were going to do this supergroup, but he released his single, I released my single,' to which Adam replied, 'I'm sorry I quit, man.'

Departure: The video looks more grown up than Bieber's regular bubblegum pop fayre

Air kisses: Christina got a kiss from Bieber while he joked with Adam about starting a 'supergroup'
