What a plank: Gordon Ramsay posted up a picture on his Twitter of himself trying out the latest internet craze of planking

Along with Rick Rolling, LOLCats and recreating classic album covers, it was fun while it lasted.

But the death knell has officially been sounded for the latest online fashion for 'planking' after celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, 44, posted up photos of himself playing out the prank.

He posted up a picture of himself on Twitter trying his hand at the latest cyberspace craze on the back of a boat as he headed out from Newport Beach, California, for a spot of Father's Day fishing in the Pacific.

Navy lark: The celebrity chef was stirring up trouble onboard as he joked around and pretended to throw a pal overboard

It wasn't the only larking around the father-of-four did either in true 'embarrassing dad' fashion.

At one point, he pretended to try and throw a friend overboard, and he came back completely sunburnt.

He wrote: 'Catch of the day ! Lobster three ways !!! Face, Neck, Ears , burning like hell I used. X Factor 50 !'

All at sea: Despite slapping on the Factor 50, Gordon's skin was nicely roasted when he arrived back from his Father's Day fishing trip

Reel-y good time: The sweary chef had gone for a day's deep sea fishing in the Pacific

Perhaps he should stick to what he is undeniably amazing at - cooking.

For the uninitiated, planking sees people lying stretched out flat in the most unlikely of public places, then sharing their poses on social media sites like Twitter, Flickr and Facebook.

Aficionados - generally youngsters - are required to lie expressionless with a straight body, hands by their sides with toes pointing into the ground.

The phenomenon caused alarm last month when an Australian practitioner was killed trying it on a balcony in Brisbane, but falling to his death instead.

Pondering the deep: What is Gordon contemplating for his next online-inspired shenanigans? Posting up a video of himself singing Rick Astley's never Gonna Give You Up?

Setting sail: The Michelin-starred gourmand was joined by friends for his skin-frying voyage to catch supper

The victim, a man in his 20s, fell while a friend photographed him, according to police.

However, the fact that craggy-faced chef Ramsay thinks the practice is now cool is more likely to put youngsters off trying it than anything.

According to the BBC, two groups claim to have invented the prank, either in Somerset in 2000 as the 'lying down game' which went online in 2007, or in South Australia the year after where it became known as planking.

Both groups have rival Facebook sites boasting more than 100,000 fans - but maybe a few less after people see the swearing celebrity chef at it....

Bad service: The firebrand chef was reportedly 'aghast' after he went to Gjelina in Venice, California with pregnant Posh

Gordon Ramsay is notorious for his temper when it comes to cooks and restaurants so it was no surprise that he wasn’t happy when a chef refused his friend's request.

Ramsay was dining with good friend Victoria Beckham in a trendy Los Angeles restaurant when he reportedly became angered over them refusing her ‘salad dressing on the side’ order.

Gordon Ramsay says he was less than impressed at the treatment given to pregnant Victoria Beckham and let it be known.

The firebrand chef was reportedly 'aghast' after he went to Gjelina in Venice, California with pregnant Posh - and she was denied a change to her meal.

The restaurant replied saying it had a strict ‘no substitutions’ policy when the former Spice Girl asked for smoked trout salad to be left plain, with the dressing on the side.

When the waiter wouldn't accommodate her special order, Gordon was shocked.

‘I couldn't believe it,’ he said.

Posh is eight months pregnant with her fourth child with soccer ace David Beckham, and the couple are close friends with Ramsay.

According to the menu, the dish is normally served with grapefruit, avocado, red onion and lemon.

Request denied: Victoria Beckham wanted her dressing on the side of her salad but was disappointed with the restaurant's policy

The restaurant: Ramsay dined at Gjelina in Venice, California with pregnant Posh

Ramsay said he had trouble believing that such a simple request - a plain salad with the dressing on the side - was asking too much of the kitchen.

‘The lady's pregnant!’ Ramsay said.

"No one is asking to be fussy I still think that's the customer's prerogative.... It was a sour note.

‘I don't think customers should be treated that way. That might not be the way I choose to eat it, but that's what the customer wants.’

Despite the 'sour note' Ramsay said his overall impression of the restaurant was positive.

‘The place is great,’ Ramsay said.

‘But I don't know, times are tough out there. You have to show a touch of sensitivity.’

Close friends: Gordon Ramsay is very close with David and Victoria Beckham seeing as they all have lived in Los Angeles for a while

In their defence, a restaurant spokesperson told the Sunday Mirror: ‘It’s that sense of entitlement… it has to stop.

‘We treat everybody the same in here and it doesn’t matter who you are.

'We have a policy that we don’t make substitutions. It doesn’t matter if you are famous or you have allergies.

‘Gordon Ramsay should know better. The smoked trout is one of our favourite items and has been on the menu almost since we started three years ago.’

Moment of truth: Gordon Ramsay will be seen eating raw duck foetus straight out of the egg on his new show Gordon's Great Escape on Monday

He caused controversy by killing turkeys and pigs on camera - now Gordon Ramsay is set to ruffle a few more feathers when he's seen eating a raw duck foetus on his latest cookery show.

The Michelin-starred chef travels to Cambodia where the dish - essentially an over-developed fertilised egg - is a delicacy.

Despite looking incredibly unsure, the potty-mouthed celebrity cook showed his stomach was as strong as he language when he took the plunge - and actually said it tasted nice.

Scroll down to see another of Ramsay's culinary odysseys from Gordon's Great Escape...

He's not yolking: The Michelin-starred chef was in Cambodia when he decided to try the snack which is a delicacy in South-East Asia

However, he's unlikely to start serving up the delight - which is called balut or Pong tea khon in Cambodia and is widely eaten across South-East Asia - for his celebrity pals Victoria and David Beckham at dinner parties any time soon...

The scenes will be shown this Monday on Gordon's Great Escape, where the culinary king travels to far-flung corners of the globe in a quest for the world's most unusual foods.

A spokesman for Channel 4 told Mail Online: 'The series is about authentic food throughout Asia and illustrates how local food is sourced as well as the local customs and rituals associated with it in each of the countries featured.

'Viewers are made aware before the start of the programme that some sequences feature animal slaughter so they know what to expect and the series is appropriately scheduled after the watershed.'

The kitchen genius ran into trouble earlier this year when it emerged that he had gone fishing for sharks - just 18 months before making a programme investigating their slaughter for shark fin soup.

Not for the faint-hearted: The celebrity chef ate the treat at a roadside cafe in the show, the start of the second series of Gordon's Great Escape, which sees him cook and eat the foods of South-East Asia

Suck it and see: The chef, who has a celebrated palate, actually said that the foetus tasted nice too

At the time, it was claimed that his £5million golden handcuffs with Channel 4 may not be renewed because of continued controversy and declining viewing figures.

There have also been a number of controversies over his private and business life over the past couple of years.

The five-year deal ends in the summer but fears it wouldn't be renewed appear to have been unfounded.

The bill's on him: Gordon tried the duck foetus on his travels around South-East Asia which involved a lot of dishes totally alien to the Western world but common in the area

It's rumoured that the chef will re-sign another deal, but perhaps at a reduced rate.

The star's shows include Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, which hasn't been shown since 2009, The F-Word and spin-off Ramsay's Best Restaurants.

A Channel 4 spokesperson said: 'We are continuing to discuss a number of ideas going forward.’

Different world: Gordon probably stuck to hotdogs when he went to see the Los Angeles Lakers with his friend David Beckham on Monday

However, if Gordon does get dropped, he's unlikely to be crying into his cornflakes for very long.

He still earns a fortune from his U.S. work, getting an estimated £9.4million for his programmes in America.
