He's known for his sharp tongue and crude language.

And Gordon Ramsay is sure to have muttered a few expletives yesterday as his wife Tana managed to beat him to the Virgin London Marathon finish line - by around 15 minutes.

Tana Ramsay looked delighted as she completed the 26-mile course and was left having to wait on the side of the road as her husband lagged behind her.

Finished! Gordon Ramsay's wife Tana celebrates after finishing the London marathon 15 minutes ahead of the celebrity chef, who looked exhausted on completion

The chef, 45, looked exhausted when he finally managed to catch up with his wife as he sat in a chair and caught his breath back.

Tana, 37, and Gordon set off on the race together after training for months for the gruelling task.

Before they set off for the day, Gordon tweeted a picture of himself with his wife in their running get-ups.

Lagging behind: The TV star set off with Tana in the morning but she managed to beat him to the finish line

Different times: Tana Ramsay had a drink as she waited at the finish line while Gordon ran the last section and took in the crowds

Time to sit down: Tana looked relaxed as she sat on a step while she waited for Gordon to join her at the end of the 26-mile trek

He wrote alongside the image: 'OK ready steady RUN !!!!!!! Porridge DONE ........ Now just a 26 mile Jog #perfectsunday.'

And although he managed to complete the amazing achievement it wasn't quite the perfect finish he would have wanted as Tana managed to sprint ahead of him towards the end of the marathon.

Tana looked relieved as she crossed the final line wearing a yellow sports vest with her name emblazoned on it.

Bored? Tana joined the other runners as she killed time ready for Gordon

Congrats! The F Word star greeted other runners as he finally managed to stop running

And she had time to have a drink, before she took to a step to wait and cheer Gordon on 15 minutes later.

The pair embraced for a happy hug when the chef joined her at the end of the trek.

But he looked exhausted as he crashed out and rested his legs on a chair.

And he's still feeling the pain today, after writing on Twitter this morning as he enjoyed a hearty breakfast: 'Eggs Benedict @planefood thanks for all your support with the marathon well done everybody. #sore.'

Stretching it out: Tana warmed down in plenty of time ready for her husband to turn up

'Sore': Gordon tweeted the next morning to say he was still sore after the gruelling task

Resting up: The 37-year-old showed she was slightly ahead of Gordon in the fitness stakes as she sat down for 15 minutes wearing her medal

Although the loved up couple showed there were no hard feelings as they looked delighted at completing the marathon and posed while they cuddled at the end of the challenging day.

Gordon even gave Tana a big kiss on his forehead as he proudly put his arm around her while she smiled widely.

They weren't the only celebrity runners at this year's event.

Proud hug: The sporty pair had no hard feelings as they reunited following the marathon

Fancy seeing you here! Gordon quite literally ran into fellow TV chef Michel Roux Jr at the Virgin London marathon 2012

The Only Way Is Essex star James 'Arg' Argent managed to prove his 'haters' wrong as he crossed the finish line in just over six hours.

The 24-year-old only started to train six weeks ago and managed to raise £3,308 for Cancer Research.

The reality star proudly tweeted at the end of the race: '6 weeks ago i was 18 stone and couldnt run down my road. Just completed London Marathon.

'Received so much stick n lots believed i wouldnt do it but proved those Haters/Doubters wrong! Hope Grandad Seamus is proud! #CancerResearch.'

He was joined by co-stars Cara Kilbey and Billi Mucklow, who finished with times of 05:47:45 and 06:02:37 respectively.
