Braided beauty: Nicola Roberts showed off a long plaited hair extension as she arrived for her London gig in a colour and pattern-clashing outfit of harlequin shorts and animal-print ankle boots and a multi-coloured pom pom tail

Wearing anything that you are likely to trip up on or get caught up in is probably not the best accessory for a live performance.

But Nicola Roberts couldn't help but channel her inner Rapunzel as she arrived to perform a solo gig in London last night.

The Girls Aloud star was snapped at G-A-Y wearing a long braided plait which had been attached to her auburn locks.

The braid swung around her body as she posed for the cameras and then took to the stage at the club to perform her single Lucy Day and other songs from her debut solo album Cinderella's Eyes.

Last week, Nicola was hailed as one of the best-dressed celebrities in the front row during London Fashion Week.

And while she has been known to bravely and boldly experiment with her wardrobe, she has been known to get it oh so wrong on many an occasion.

Leggy: The hot pants showed off the singer's toned and tanned pins very nicely

And last night was no exception for the pop star who came on stage in an outfit that looked as though she had thrown it together at the last minute with very little thought.

Either that or her stylist had gone sick because it certainly looked as though she had been left to her own devices while delving into the dressing up box.

Nicola, 25, performed in a colour-clash, mismatched outfit that made a very bright and bold statement.

Hello London! Despite the assault on their eyes, the crowd went crazy for Nicola as she danced and sang her heart out

She wore harlequin-print hot pants that were adorned with different coloured pom poms which had been sewn onto the the back to look like a tail.

At the end of her long and very toned legs - which the shorts did actually set off rather nicely - she wore heeled boots.

But even they raised a few eyebrows, the hot pink animal print and orange soles and heels severely clashing with the shorts.

Thank you very much! Nicola waves to the crowd clutching a bouquet of flowers as the club's promoter Jeremy Joseph beams behind her

She also wore a cropped white T-shirt with a simple pink lips logo and emerald green drop earrings.

And she also went for a Rapunzel-style do as she added a long plaited extension to her long hair.

And after referring to her outfit as an 'urban fairtytale', Nicola also Tweeted: 'G.A.Y was AMAZING! I loved every single second...Team Ginge now with well earned burgers at Balans.'

That's better: Nicola toned down her wacky attire for jeans and a T-shirt as she left The Box after her gig

Having ditched the wacky attire for skinny jeans and a T-shirt, she then headed on to notorious nightclub the Box, still with her long plait swinging around.

Nicola was a regular fixture in the front row at London Fashion Week last week, and was hailed by Mail Online's Femail as being one of the best dressed guests.

Getting it wrong: A couple of Nicola's London Fashion Week outfits were unflattering and gaudy

Although she did get it a little wrong a couple of times when she stepped out in a bizarre red and grey boldly-patterned jumpsuit.

She also arrived for another show in a shapeless green maxi skirt and loose-fitting grey logo T-shirt, but she did get it very right for the launch of her friend and Girls Aloud co-stars Cheryl Cole's shoe collection launch.

Getting it right: Nicola proved she can looked chic and stylish when she puts her mind to it
