Surfing USA: Former Neighbours star Jesse Spencer is looking far more muscular since swapping Erinsborough for a starring role in House

The residents of Ramsay Street might be a little bemused by former Neighbours star Jesse Spencer's transformation from Neighbours wimp to House beefcake.

The 32-year-old star certainly looks to have bulked up since starring in the Australian soap, baring his rippling muscles after enjoying a surf in celebrity hotspot Malibu California yesterday.

And the actor's move from Billy Kennedy to Dr Robert Chase alongside Hugh Laurie in the award winning Fox show, seems to have done him good.

Water star: Jesse showed fellow Malibu surfer Gerard Butler what a real surfer looks like

And he looks a lot beefier than he did when he first shot to fame as teen hearthrob Billy Kennedy in the ratings-winning Australian soap opera.

Jesse, 32, donned his wetsuit and showed his surfing skills in support of the Surfrider Foundation's charity event The Celebrity Expression Session.

He has been a big success since following in the footsteps of Erinsborough legends such as Guy Pierce and Alan Dale in making the move to the world's biggest movie and television market.

But it has emerged he could be reprising of his former role as Dr Karl Kennedy's son if his former screen father Alan Fletcher has anything to do with it.

He said: "My great wish is that one day Jesse Spencer will finish working on House, because he has sort of suggested that when he is free of his contractual obligations he might be tempted to put in at least a guest appearance on Neighbours.

Best pals: Billy Kennedy was renowned for his love of pet sheep Casserole

'I couldn't think of anything better than to have Billy turn up.'

His eldest screen son Benjie McNair is currently back on screens as Malcolm, and he is hoping the shows writers will contrive a reason to get the whole clan back together.

The full Spencer: Jesse was not as well built when he wore Speedos in his Neighbours days

He said: 'I think it would be quite lovely if they turned up for a major event, because I think for a lot of viewers it is very frustrating that, when there are weddings and funerals, not all the family can be there.

'It's obvious why they can't, and I think it would be quite extraordinary if there was an event.

'I think maybe what would be really cute is if we had a surprise birthday for one of the characters that everybody turned up at.'
