She's never been one to conform to the usual style rules.

And while most women would shy away from braving wearing a mini skirt after 40, Kylie Minogue found a way to rock a sexy red carpet look while still remaining a little modest.

The 43-year-old singer wore her black mini dress on the red carpet at the ARIA Awards in Sydney today with a floor-length sheer skirt that gave a peekaboo effect.

Never too old for a mini dress: Kylie Minogue dazzled on the red carpet at the ARIA Awards in Sydney today, wearing a tiny dress with a sheer overlay

Kylie is back to blonde after a few months as a brunette. She wore her newly lightened locks in side-swept curls.

The All the Lovers singer was at the annual Australian music awards to be inducted into the ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association) Hall of Fame, and was supported at the event by boyfriend Andres Velencoso and sister Dannii Minogue.

But while the elder Minogue dared to bare in her sheer, backless dress, Dannii, 40, preferred a demure look in a black draped gown with copper hardware belt.

Kylie bumped into fellow Australian singer Delta Goodrem on the red carpet.

The pair greeted each other warmly, although it took a little convincing for Kylie to let go of her boyfriend's hand to pose for a few pictures together.

Delta, who has been spending time in LA where she is dating Nick Jonas, also chose a short dress with a sheer floor-length overlay. She posed sultrily on the red carpet with bedhead hair while her sheer black train spanned out behind her.

Stunning: Delta Goodrem also returned to home soil for the ceremony, and also chose a sheer dress that gave a glimpse of her long legs

Minogue was presented with her honour during the ceremony by her friend and music journalist Molly Meldrum and Prime Minister Julia Gillard.

The Spinning Around hitmaker said that after more than two decades in the industry she felt 'amazement, gratitude, humility, wonderment and pride' to still be working.

She thanked her family for their support throughout her 24-year career, paying tribute to Dannii, who cheered her on from the audience.

Kylie also gave a shout out to her Spanish boyfriend: My boyfriend Andres who is in love with this country. You've made him feel very welcome.'

Minogue made an appearance on Australia's version of the X Factor last week, on which Dannii is a judge, and performed with the eventual winner Reece Mastin.

The duo received a standing ovation for their rendition of Minogue's hit duet with Robbie Williams Kids.
