Proud Kate and brave William reunite at sophisticated Palace party after his daring sea rescue

By Emma Reynolds

Media darlings: The reunited couple chatted happily with assembled guests from TV, radio and the Press

After his dramatic rescue of two shipwrecked soldiers over the weekend, Prince William embraced the chance to socialise with a radiant Kate at a glamorous Buckingham Palace event.

The Duchess of Cambridge dazzled in an emerald green dress as she attended the party with her valiant husband, who was recovering from his daring exploits piloting a search and rescue helicopter in Anglesey.

The couple mingled with notable figures from the media along with Royals including the Queen, Prince Philip, Prince Charles and Camilla.

Kate's wedding dress designer Sarah Burton was meanwhile being named designer of the year at the British Fashion Awards.

The Duchess of Cambridge herself was nominated for the British Style Award, but it was won by TV presenter and fashion icon Alexa Chung for the second year in a row.

Guests at the royal bash included Radio One presenter Fearne Cotton, broadcaster Andrew Marr, and This Morning host Phillip Schofield.

Fearne wore a black skirt, bright red blouse and matching nail polish to meet the Queen, who was dressed in a mint green jacket, olive skirt and black gloves.

Her Majesty had amusingly renamed the palace's East Gallery - where the event was held - the Tweet Suite.

How do you do? The Queen and Prince Philip greet radio presenter Fearne Cotton at the sophisticated event

The 350 visitors were encouraged to post online messages about the sophisticated soiree, which comes ahead of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee next year.

It is the first gathering of its kind since the monarch staged a similar night in 2002, the year of her Golden Jubilee.

She conversed cheerfully with editors and bloggers during the glittering evening, as well as foreign media and regional journalists from across the UK.

The opulent East Gallery boasts displays about the Queen's Golden and Silver Jubilees and Queen Victoria's 1897 Diamond Jubilee.

The Queen and her state guests normally process through the gallery to the Ballroom for the State Banquet normally held on the first day of a visit.

It is covered with sumptuous carpet and features beautiful golden wall decorations, ornate candlesticks and carefully crafted vases.

From one extreme to the other: While Victoria Beckham opted for a black gown for the British Fashion Awards, Kelly Brook looked angelic in a pretty white number

She usually manages to upstage every fashion wannabe within her vicinity when she steps out in her own designs.

But tonight Victoria Beckham had to pull out all the stops as she rubbed shoulders with the hottest young fashionistas at the annual British Fashion Awards.

And the 37-year-old star, who took home the Designer Brand prize at the ceremony, certainly commanded attention as she arrived for the ceremony wearing a Gothic black gown.

While Victoria opted for dark and brooding for the British Fashion Awards, model Kelly Brook went for the opposite end of the spectrum in an angelic one-shouldered white dress, which featured a sexy thigh-high split.

The 32-year-old star teamed the dress with a pretty gold belt and a pair of animal-print heels as she posed for photographers.

Before the event, Kelly admitted she was feeling a little weary, tweeting: 'Back to London British Fashion Awards tonight! #tired'

Glamorous: The gown featured a low back and showed off Victoria's slender figure

Meanwhile, mother-of-four Victoria paired her dress with a scraped back bun, and kept her make-up simple with a smoky eye and nude lips.

The simple design featured a high neck, low back and long train, leaving Victoria's shoes hidden from sight.

And there was no sign of any baby weight as Victoria, who gave birth to little Harper in July, posed for photographers at the highly-anticipated event.

Flashing the flesh: Kelly teamed the pretty dress with a pair of animal-print heels and a gold belt

It has been a busy few days for the former Spice Girl, who jetted in from Los Angeles yesterday with baby daughter Harper.

But there was no signs of jetlag as Victoria smouldered for the cameras at the event.

Posing up with famous friends including Kate Moss and Marc Jacobs, Victoria was undoubtedly delighted that her designs were recognised at such a prestigious event.

Full-length glamour: Abbey Crouch and Poppy Delevigne both opted for sweeping gowns

Where's your baby weight gone? Abbey looked slender as she posed for photographers outside the awards

Her husband David, meanwhile, is in Jakarta with his football team LA Galaxy where they will be playing an exhibition game on November 30 against an Indonesian all-star team as part of their Asia Tour.

Another WAG showing off her post-baby figure was Abbey Crouch, who wore a form-fitting suede studded dress for the occasion.

Also at the awards, held at London's exclusive Savoy Hotel, were fashion stars including Marc Jacobs and Annie Lennox's daughter Tali, who shone in a pretty gold gown.

Alexa Chung wore a cute silver and white Christopher Kane number, while Poppy Delevigne opted for a dramatic paisley-printed number.

Trendsetter Olivia Palermo went for a ruffled knitted dress as models Georgia May Jagger and Amber Le Bon displayed their slim figures in detailed dresses.

Meanwhile, Oscar-winning actor Colin Firth decided to make the event a date night by attending with his wife Livia, who looked stunning in a gorgeous emerald-green silk dress.

Fashion's hottest young stars: Georgia May Jagger, Amber Le Bon and Tali Lennox shone at the awards

The pair, who married in 1997, looked more in love than ever as they posed for photographers at the event.

Firth, who took home the coveted Best Actor prize for his role in last year's hit movie The King's Speech, has spoken frequently about his love for his wife, and credited her support for his success.

Accepting his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame earlier this year, Firth said at the ceremony: 'When I look down there at that star, it's her name I see.'

Keeping it simple: Samantha Cameron and Amanda Wakeley both wore black outfits as they posed on the blue carpet

Not everybody got it right at the prestigious awards ceremony, however.

Stella McCartney, who usually looks effortlessly chic at such events, missed the mark in an unflattering jumpsuit while Daphne Guinness went for another Lady Gaga-esque outfit in a geometric black dress.

However, despite her fashion faux pas, Stella took home the Red Carpet Award at the event, while the main winner at the evening was named as Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen.

Burton shot to fame when she was revealed as the designer of the Duchess of Cambridge's wedding dress earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Alexa Chung took home the British Style Award, voted for by the public, for the second year in a row.

Here come the boys: Designer Henry Holland, who appeared to have forgotten his socks, and James Long at the awards

Guest performer: Jessie J sang new song Who Are You on X Factor, but is said to be annoyed that Misha B performed it first

It may be a platform for aspiring hopefuls to launch their careers, but it's also a showcase for established artists to boost sales during guest appearances.

So Jessie J wasn't too happy that her moment of glory - launching her new song on X Factor tonight - was tainted by Misha B who sang the track two weeks ago.

The Do It Like A Dude singer was invited onto the ITV reality series to perform her latest single Who Are You, but the Mancunian got there first by performing it during the sing-off with Kitty Brucknell.

Gothic: Jessie J dressed entirely in black as she performed on the reality show

A source told the Sunday Mirror: 'Two weeks ago when Misha was in the sing-off with Kitty Brucknell, she wanted to sing Who Are You.

'She loves Jessie and sees her as an inspiration so it was a real honour.'

'But Jessie and her camp had wanted tonight to be the first time the track was performed on The X Factor.

'It was a bit of a mix-up and not really anyone’s fault, but Jessie wasn’t happy.'

Rising star: Jessie J has continued to have success since winning her Critic's Choice Brit Award earlier this year

The insider added: 'She’s too nice a person to say anything to Misha, but if they meet it might be a touch awkward at first.'

But Jessie didn't let the hiccup set her back, belting out a powerful rendition of her song while dressed in an elegant floor-length black gown with revealing lace detail on the upper body.

Before the event, she tweeted: 'Calling all #heartbeats my dEBUT performance of #WHOYOUARE LIVE is TONIGHT on XFACTOR at 8pm on ITV!!! RT'

Supporting Little Mix: Jessie J didn't hold back when Dermot asked her who she wants to win

Survivors: Little Mix have received support from Jessie J

There was a mixed reaction on Twitter, with people split down the middle on which rendition was more powerful.

One user of the social networking site wrote: 'I aren't (sic) being funny but I thought Misha B was better at performing who you are than Jessie J,' while another quipped: 'Jessie J had a Diva strop cuz Misha B sung her song on the X Factor, before she did. Grow up Jessie.'

However, one supporter wrote: 'without being horrible Jessie J just showed Misha B how it is done. #whoyouare'

Got there first: Misha sang Jessie J earlier this month when she was saved against Kitty Brucknell

Jessie J revealed who she is rooting for in the final when host Dermot O'Leary quizzed her, admitting: 'Little Mix.'

The 23-year-old formed a bond with the girl band while guest-mentoring with Tulisa Contostavlos in the final round of the auditions at judge's houses.

Luck of the Irish ran out: Janet Devlin was sent home last night after singing for survival against Misha B

Home time: Janet's rendition of Snow Patrol's Chasing Cars was not enough to save her against Misha B

There's no doubt that Pippa Middleton likes a party – after all, she helped to organise the Royal Wedding reception.

And now the Duchess of Cambridge’s little sister is capitalising on her hostess skills – and her new-found celebrity – with a £400,000 book deal.

The 28-year-old is said to have accepted the offer from publisher Michael Joseph, a division of Penguin, to write a book about being the perfect party hostess.

Celebrated author: Pippa is said to have been the subject of a publishers' bidding war

Miss Middleton already writes an online magazine for her parents’ Party Pieces firm, and posed for these photographs to promote it two years ago.

Since then her role as bridesmaid at her sister’s wedding has catapulted her to fame, and she was reportedly the subject of a fierce bidding war between some of the country’s leading publishing houses.

Inevitably, the deal is likely to attract criticism that she is cashing in on her royal connections – particularly as she is set to make thousands more from lucrative spin-offs after the book is published next Christmas.

St James’s Palace yesterday declined to comment.

Clash: Chelsea footballer Ashley Cole was caught on CCTV allegedly throwing a punch at a fan who dubbed him 'Cashley' on night out in August

Ashley Cole has been caught on CCTV allegedly throwing a punch at a club goer in London after the pair became embroiled in an argument.

The footballer had been enjoying a night out with his England and Chelsea team mate Daniel Sturridge and other friends at trendy Marble Arch nightclub 141 in August.

But the 30-year-old became embroiled in a heated exchange when he left the venue with three of his pals, which allegedly resulted in Ashley trying to hit the victim.

The 25-year-old man, who is refusing to be identified for fear of reprisals, has now come forward as CCTV images of the clash emerge.

The Arsenal fan claims he shouted 'Cashley' to the star as his chauffeur drove the sports man passed where he was standing.

The comment riled Ashley, who then allegedly asked his driver to stop so he could jump out of the vehicle.

The man explains the incident to the Daily Star Sunday: 'I spotted Cole in the passenger seat of the Mercedes and shouted Cashley at him.

'He said from the car window, 'Come and say that to my face'. Then he got out of the car and came straight towards me. He was not drunk. He was in full control. He was coming for me basically.

Out and about: Ashley, who is a regular at bars in London, is seen enjoying a night in the West End earlier this year

'I said one word and then it started. He came straight towards me. I said, 'Listen man, listen man I was only joking'. I told him I was an Arsenal fan. I said that two or three times. I was trying to calm the situation down.

'He kept repeating, 'Do you know who the f**k I am? Do you know who the f**k I am?''

The altercation then allegedly turned violent as the man felt 'threatened' as the incident unfolded.

He claims one of Cole's friend's pushed him, only for him to realise later on when he watched the CCTV footage back that the footballer had actually tried to strike him.

He adds: 'At this point his friend was trying to hold him (Cole) back. He started saying, 'You know nothing about me you f**king c**t.' I'm standing against a wall with Cole to my right side but because the big black guy (Cole's friend) is in my face, my attention was diverted.

'He was in my face and I felt threatened. All of a sudden, to my astonishment, I was being pushed and before I know it the big black guy grabbed me in his arms and had taken me to the side.

'But it was only when I saw the footage later that I saw his real intention. He wanted to do some serious damage. That was when I saw him throw that punch.

Dapper: Ashley how he usually appears at red carpet events when he's off the football pitch

'The fact of the matter is I called him something - something I think is a cheeky comment, it was not malicious. I apologised to him. For him to still, after that, try and cause physical damage is ridiculous.'

And the 25-year-old claims it was Sturridge who tried to keep the peace and explain his pal's actions to him.

'Then (Daniel) Sturridge stayed behind to calm the situation down after Cole left,' the man said.

'I told him, 'Cole needs to behave in a more responsible way'. Sturridge is like, 'Oh, sometimes you lose it when someone says something to you'.'

Cole, who split from wife Cheryl Cole last year, was dubbed 'Cashley' when he transferred from Arsenal to rival team Chelsea.

In calmer times: Ashley with his ex-wife, Girls Aloud star Cheryl Cole, who he split from last year

He fell out with Arsenal fans after stating he had only been offered £50,000-a-week to stay at the club.

The 5ft 6in fan who was targeted in the alleged clash insists he won't be pressing charges if Cole apologises for the incident.

He says: 'I feel what happened still affects me up to this day. When you look at the footage he pushes me so he can set me up with the right punch.

'For someone to do that shows he knows what's going on. It was thuggish behaviour.

He sized me up. If I was 6ft 2in he would not have gone as far as he did.'

Police representatives state they were 'highly unlikely' to pursue any investigations into the clash.

A spokesperson for Cole has so far failed to comment on the incident.

'The One': We've heard it before but this time Kerry Katona insists she's in love with new boyfriend, artist Steve Alce

This week she announced she's managed to clear her hefty debts, and now things are looking up for troubled star Kerry Katona even more.

The former pop star has declared her love for artist Steve Alce, insisting he is The One after meeting him at a charity dinner just a few weeks ago.

With two failed marriages behind her, the 31-year-old has failed to settle down again as she continued to fall for a number of disastrous suitors.

But despite her previous mishaps, Kerry is convinced this time she's found a man who doesn't want to be with her for her fame.

And although it's only early days, Kerry has already fallen head over heels for the 34-year-old.

The besotted star tells the Daily Mirror: 'I’m in love with him. I really, really like him. He is lovely... kind and caring.

Tender: Kerry Katona is putting her disastrous former relationships behind her with new man Steve

'Steve is so unlike other men I have been with and I can honestly say I have never felt this strongly about anyone before.

'He is not with me because of my fame and wants to stay out of the limelight. He likes Kerry being Kerry and takes me for who I am.

'He is quiet and thoughtful – almost mysterious – which I love.'

Laughing: The mother-of-four went for a romantic stroll with her new beau near her Surrey home

The pair met at a Sportsman's Dinner last month, which Kerry attended with her Celebrity Big Brother pal Paddy Doherty.

And Steve, from Lewisham, east London, appears to be just as loved up with the reality star.

The pair were spotted laughing and enjoying each other's company as they spent time near Kerry's Surrey home over the weekend.

Steve and Kerry shared a tender kiss and went for a romantic stroll in a nearby park on Saturday afternoon.

Single: Kerry has been spotted out on her own in recent times

A source added: 'Kerry is madly in love and says Steve is ‘The One’. He is fairly wealthy in his own right and not at all fazed by her fame.'

Kerry, who has four children, including two from her marriage to Westlife star Brian McFadden, is also celebrating after clearing the remainder of her debt.

The former Atomic Kitten star used some of her £350,000 appearance fee for her sting on Celebrity Big Brother to clear the enormous debts, which at one point reached £417,000.

And it's about time Kerry put the past behind her following new revelations from her former boyfriend Steve Nuttall.

Earlier this month Steve described his time with the star as like a 'horror movie' and claimed he ended their two-month union by text because she turned out to be a 'bitter disappointment'.

Red-faced: Katie Price was turned away from exclusive London venue The Box on Saturday night while Hollywood actor Clive Owen was allowed in

Her ex-husband Peter Andre is in Australia appearing on the show where they first met and her estranged husband Alex Reid is blissfully happy with pregnant girlfriend Chantelle Houghton.

So all Katie Price wanted to do was let her hair down and take her mind off everything with a night out at exclusive London night club The Box.

But it wasn't to be as door staff at the venue turned the newly single glamour model away, while A-list actor Clive Owen and singer Eliza Doolittle were allowed to party the night away inside.

The reality TV star dressed to impress and must have spent hours getting ready for the night out on Saturday.

Turning up in skintight animal-print leggings, Katie wore a leather gilet with fur collar, mesh longsleeved top and skyhigh ankle boots.

But when she turned up to the swanky venue in the capital's Soho district with her scantily clad friends in tow, the star was left red-faced.

Embarrassing: The glamour model tried to hide her face and make a quick getaway after the snub

Trying to see the funny side: Katie tried to pretend she didn't care as she walked away from the club with her friends

While Clive Owen was free to walk straight through the club's doors, Katie was sent on her way.

The 33-year-old tried to see the funny side, smiling as she swiftly walked along the road away from the club and tried to avoid the onlooking cameras.

At one point she tried to hide her face as her friends gripped on to her.

Your name's down, you are coming in: A-lister Clive Owen breezed passed the bouncers

It marks yet another let down for the mother of three, who recently split up with her Argentinian lover Leandro Penna.

Clive Owen on the other hand walked in to the bar incognito as he donned black trousers and coat, dressing his outfit down with a pair of trainers.

But Katie wasn't the only star to be sent packing as they catered for their Hollywood client.

Singer Eliza Doolittle, 23, was also turned away as she tried to get in with her gaggle of girlfriends.

But the star refused to let the snub get her down and appeared to remain in high spirits as they walked away to continue their night elsewhere.

Wearing a trademark short skirt to show off her enviably long legs, Eliza poked her tongue out and posed for photos with her three friends.

The star opted for sheer tights with trainers, while she covered up in a cut-off T-shirt and black jacket.

She seemed to be enjoying the night out despite being refused at the swanky bar as she beamed widely for the cameras and giggled amongst her friends.

And she was obviously keen to spend a night on the town with just her girlfriends, simply writing on Twitter during the evening: 'Girls'.

The four girls happily went on their way to find another jaunt to take their night in the capital.

Who cares: Eliza was happy to take her gaggle of girls elsewhere

All smiles: The 23-year-old was determined to have a fun girls' night out
