Break out the bunting and grab a party hat – Diamond Jubilee fever is here.

Schoolchildren kicked off the celebrations with colourful parties yesterday.

Their festivities raised the curtain on a weekend when millions of Britons will shrug off the economic gloom and host thousands of events to mark six decades of Elizabeth II.

More than 9,500 official parties are being held over the long bank holiday weekend – double the number for last year’s Royal Wedding – and many more impromptu events are expected to push the final number well beyond 10,000.

The bad news is that the weather could put a dampener on the fun. As Her Majesty sails down the Thames at the head of a flotilla tomorrow, the chances are she will be doing most of her waving beneath an umbrella.

However things should improve in time for Monday’s concert at Buckingham Palace. And yesterday, the sun did its best to shine on the early events around the country.

In Durham, one lucky youngster even got to be ‘queen’ for the day. Seven-year-old Zoe Kimura, of St Godric’s RC primary school, took on the starring role in a re-enactment of the Coronation, arriving in a horse-drawn carriage. Durham Cathedral’s education officer Elizabeth Baker, who came up with the idea, said: ‘I knew the children would love the pomp and ceremony of events this weekend and the pop concert at the Palace, but I wanted them to understand the importance of the event too. The Queen is the second longest serving monarch after Queen Victoria.’

A very different – but no less patriotic – kind of Diamond Jubilee street party saw more than 100 refugees celebrate Her Majesty as their ‘Queen of Sanctuary’ as they thanked Britain for giving them a second chance in life.

Those gathered in Brixton, south London, included refugees from all six decades of the Queen’s reign, all of whom had fled persecution and possible death.

Among them was Bob Vertes, who fled to England in 1957 as an eight-year-old with his Jewish parents to escape rampant anti-Semitism in post-revolutionary Hungary. He went on to be a maths teacher and Open University tutor.

Mr Vertes, 64, of Edgware, north London, added: ‘I love the diversity in this country which I think does not exist in as comfortable a way in other countries.

For me, one of the reasons for that is having a royal figurehead constantly there and the way the Royal Family has maintained its links with the former Empire and Commonwealth.’

On the Mall yesterday morning, dedicated ‘royal watcher’ Terry Hutt, 77, known even to the Royal Family as ‘the Union Jack man’, was already at the scene preparing for Tuesday’s formal celebrations.

Even the very youngest were preparing themselves to celebrate the Queen's landmark Diamond Jubilee

Determined to secure a plum spot for catching the Queen’s eye, he was there scouting out the landscape, dressed in his full regalia of Union Flag trainers, socks, shorts, vest, T-shirt, and two hats.

Crowds of at least one million are expected to throng the banks of the Thames tomorrow to watch the Royal Barge head the flotilla of 1,000 vessels.

Those who do intend to brave the elements would be wise to go prepared with an umbrella, a waterproof coat and perhaps a pair of Wellington boots.

Forecasters expect the day to be disrupted by more than an inch of rain in places with temperatures in the capital barely getting above a chilly 12C (54F). It is a far cry from a week ago when most of the country was bathed in Mediterranean-style sunshine and enjoying a record 28C (82F).

The weekend's events

MeteoGroup forecaster Tom Tobler said: ‘We’re going to see most of the weekend’s rain on Sunday.

‘Sadly, the warm weather of last week came just a little bit too early for the Queen.

‘The rain is coming in from the south-west and starting on Saturday afternoon before spreading eastwards. Overnight on Saturday and into Sunday there’s going to be a lot of heavy and persistent rain across central and southern England and Wales. It may even edge its way into northern England as well. It’s going to feel pretty miserable. In London on Sunday temperatures are expected to go no higher than 12C (54F).’

Mr Tobler said it would be cloudy and damp on Monday but should brighten up for the palace concert starring acts including Madness, Stevie Wonder and Sir Paul McCartney.

Big day: Kendal and Kylie Jenner were bridesmaids at their half-brother Brandon's wedding in Kauai, Hawaii. Stepmother Kris also attended

Kendall and Kylie Jenner proved to be quite the wedding belles at their half-brother's wedding in Hawaii yesterday.

The teens acted as bridesmaids as Brandon Jenner's said 'I do' to Leah Felder in Kauai, wearing flowing outfits and flowers in their hair.

Father of the groom Bruce watched on proudly while Brandon's famous stepmother Kris also attended, wearing a pink floral halterneck dress to the nuptials.

Here come's the bride: Bruce Jenner's son Brandon married Leah Felder

Kim Kardashian and her sisters Khloé and Kourtney decided not to jet to Hawaii for the occasion, fuelling speculation that they 'snubbed' the big day.

Instead, the threesome were spotted going to lunch together in Sherman Oaks, California.

According to Radar Online, Kim, Khloé and Kourtney refused to go to the wedding, but a source dismissed this, telling them: 'There is no animosity, but the Kardashian girls just aren't super close to the Jenner boys.'

Too busy: Kourtney, Khloe and Kim Kardashian went for lunch in Sherman Oaks, California, yesterday

Kim kept her well wishes simple, by tweeting to her 14,822,171 followers: 'Congratulations to my step brother and his gorgeous new wife!'

Meanwhile, Khloé wrote on her blog: 'I just wanted to send a HUGE congratulations and so much love to my brother Brandon and his fiancé/soon-to-be wife Leah. Wishing you both all the happiness in the world!'

Kourtney added on her blog: 'I want to wish a huge congratulations to my step brother Brandon and his stunning fiance Leah who are marrying today. Sending my love to you both.'

Just married: The couple looked blissfully happy on their big day

Family affair: Father of the groom Bruce Jenner with a friend and right, his son Brody

However, the ladies clearly didn't care enough the big day to fly to Hawaii and watch Leah walk down the aisle.

But luckily, the rest of Brandon's family were there including his father Bruce Jenner, his wife Kris and their teenager daughters Kylie and Kendall.

The foursome were spotted swigging back POG juice - a tropical drink made from passionfruit, orange and guava fruits - as they arrived at their hotel in Kauai.

Brandon is one of Bruce's three sons from his second marriage to Linda Thompson, who was also in Hawaii.

Pretty in pink: Kris wore a floral dress for the occasion

The former athlete was first married to Chrystie Crownover, with whom he had two children Burt and Cassandra.

His third son, Brody, was born in 1983 but less than ten years later Bruce wed Kris - who already had four children with her former husband Robert Kardashian.

In 1995, Kris gave birth to hers and Bruce's first daughter Kendall, and two years later they welcomed Kylie into the world.

David and Victoria Beckham's daughter Harper Seven reaches her first birthday next month.

But despite her being in their lives for nearly a year, the Los Angeles Galaxy player admits he is still in awe they have a girl.

The former England star, 37, admits he still find himself amazed about finally having a girl after three sons, in particular when he changes her nappy.

You can take the boy out of the East End... David Beckham leaves The Cow gastropub in West London last night

Speaking on This Morning today, he said: 'She's relaxed, she's feminine - that was the biggest thing for me, it sounds silly but, everything about her is feminine, so having a little girl...

It still amazes me every time I change the nappy - I'm like, "Oh my God, we've got a little girl!"... it still amazes me.'

David said Harper is incredibly calm compared to their three sons Brooklyn, 13; Romeo, nine; and Cruz, seven; but maybe that will change once she gets bit older is able to run around and shout.

He continued: 'A lot of people have told me - I've got friends that have got daughters and they said how different it is having a little girl - and I didn't realise how much it was until we had Harper.

'To have three boys... there's a lot of energy in the house, they are constantly on the go from the moment they wake up to the moment they sleep, and Harper is totally different.'

Although they've got their hands full with four children, David said he couldn't rule out having one or two more.

Although, if Victoria became pregnant again, she would have to be careful after all four children were delivered by caesarean section.

'Maybe one or two more': David refused to rule out having more children as he appeared on This Morning today

He said: 'You know, we're very lucky to have four healthy children, if we have one or two more... two might scare Victoria, but maybe one more! But we'll see... you never know.'

The athlete was speaking during a live outside broadcast from a primary school in South Harrow, North West London.

Beckham was playing football with a group of children as part of his role in Sainsbury's Billion Kids challenge.

Friendly dinner: David dined out with Stella McCartney and her husband Alasdhair Willis (left) and his best friend Dave Gardner (right)

The project aims to encourage 1million children from across the country to try out a paralympic sport in the run-up to the Olympics next month.

Beckham's morning TV appearance came after he was spotted out for dinner last night with best friend Dave Gardner, fashion designer Stella McCarntey and her husband Alasdhair Willis at The Cow gastropub in Bayswater, West London.

Wearing a flat cap and shirt, the father-of-four spent five hours in the pub drinking and eating oysters.

After showing off a larger shape on holiday in Miami back in March, Lauren Goodger vowed to slim down.

And less than three months on, the TOWIE star has been flaunting the results of her drastic weight-loss plan while soaking up the sunshine with her co-stars in Marbella.

Lauren, 25, donned a bright yellow bikini as she spent the day drinking and dancing at Sala Club, in the Spanish resort.

Not so mellow in yellow: Lauren Goodger showed off the effects of her latest weight loss regime donning a bright bikini in Marbella yesterday

Lauren has been very vocal about her attempts to slim down and has been on a controversial liquid-only diet recently.

As well as being particularly strict in the lead up to her holiday, she was also seen working out at a boot camp in Spain, before the rest of her friends arrived.

She has now relaxed her strict regime and was seen drinking cocktails as she basked in the sunshine.

Lauren was joined by former on-screen rival Lucy Mecklenburgh and her boyfriend Mario Falcone, who were seen looking rather cosy together as they shared a cuddle.

Sister act: Kourtney Kardashian was joined by sisters Kim and Khloe for lunch in the Sherman Oaks area of Los Angeles earlier today

Kourtney Kardashian has made some daring choices throughout her pregnancy. And as the owner of a fashion boutique, it's nothing less than you would expect.

The pregnant reality television star showed off her bump in a daring macrame style maxi dress with just a clingy bodycon dress underneath to protect her modesty.

Kourtney, 32, channelled boho style for a chic look as she enjoyed a weekday lunch with her two sisters Kim, 31, and Khloe.

Boho vibes: Kourtney wore a daring macrame style dress - with a tight minidress underneath it which preserved her modesty

It's a decision which a lot of actresses struggle with.

But Kristen Stewart has come forward to admit she is 'really proud' of the fact she found the courage to go topless in her upcoming movie On The Road.

The 22-year-old actress added that while she doesn't regret her choice, she did expect a fuss over her semi-naked scene in the film.

'I'm really proud of it!' Kristen Stewart goes topless in new movie On The Road, and says while she stands behind her decision, she knew it would cause a fuss
She told E! News: 'People are really predictable. I completely expected that.

'I can't say it's not a little bit jarring, but it's jarring in the right way. I wanted it to be. I'm really proud of it.'

Kristen also revealed that she didn't know what to expect from audiences when the film premiered earlier this month at the Cannes Film Festival.

Nice hair! Kristen went for a volumised look as she waved to fans at the Rockefeller Center in New York today

Slender: The actress showed off her slim figure in a green and grey dress for the outing

She confessed: 'Everyone could have gotten up and booed, but our row would have gotten up and cheered.

'We all really do love it, so it would be like, "Let's go have a drink!" '

The thespian - is currently promoting her Snow White and the Huntsman in which she stars with Charlize Theron - explained that the motion picture was much less physically demanding than her new release.

Quick change: Kristen later swapped into a more casual outfit for a visit to Live! With Kelly

She said about playing Snow White: 'I would hurt myself every single day.

'The thumbs was really bad, the worst one. But every other day it would be like, "Ouch, it's this ankle or that ankle."

'Or my butt muscle--I would do something stupid like pull my ass muscle!'
